Michael founded rui attorneys after service as an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service, US Attorney’s Office, and the US District Court. His founding objective was to bring his experience in federal and large law firm service to a broader array of individual, business, and international clients.

The primary focus of Michael’s transactional practice is structuring international business transactions and wealth management services for high-net worth families to promote tax efficiency via US-foreign treaties or sophisticated multi-modal estate planning. His services include deal structuring, due diligence, distressed transaction rehabilitation, transactional restructuring. Regarding litigation, his practice focuses on complex insolvency, distressed transactions, and tax controversy. His services include practice in all California State and Federal Courts, the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, along with the United States Tax Court. Examples of specialized representations include estate planning for nonresident alien real/personal property owners, US inbound business transactions, complex real estate transactions and asset protection. Representative clients include multi-national companies, company directors and officers, persons of multiple-nationality / tax obligations, and fiduciaries. Academically, Michael is also an adjunct professor at Lincoln Law School of San Jose for estate, commercial, and bankruptcy law. 

Michael is a frequent lecturer to real estate organizations such as First American Title Company and Stewart Title Company; Compass Real Estate Brokerage, Keller Williams, and Intero; along with the San Jose Rotary Club and SEIU employees union. Michael is also an adjunct professor of law at Lincoln Law School of San Jose and a frequent lecturer at Santa Clara School of Law.

In his spare time, Michael enjoys spending time with his son and traveling throughout the United States – particularly the southwest. As a hobby, Michael is an avid collector and restorer of mechanical and electro-mechanical typewriters.
